North Florida Amateur Radio Society

 If you enjoy using radio to communicate, get started now on earning your  FCC Amateur Radio license.  You can have fun operating mobile, experimenting with antennas, designing an effective station, talking with others and meeting new friends.  Also, you can assist your neighbors and community by providing public service communications, especially when normal communications and utilities are disrupted.

To earn your entry-level (Technician) license, you must score 75% or higher on a 35-question multiple-choice exam.  For more on getting started in Amateur Radio, access

Formal classes are offered when justified by a minimum number of registrants.  Weekly classes are possible during fall or winter.  Attend a NOFARS meeting to indicate your interest.

Many earn their licenses without attending formal classes.  The question pool can be downloaded from the FCC web site http://www.fcc.gov

Look for the Element 2 Amateur Radio Question Pool.  Online web sites offering sample tests and drills can be located through Internet search engines. One site is http://kb6nu.com/tech-manual/

TESTING OPPORTUNITIES

Opportunities to take an exam for your license are plentiful in northeastern Florida.  NOFARS sponsors weeknight testing at Regency Square Mall each quarter and other organizations provide weekend testing.
